My typical day at work: My workday usually starts by checking the status of ongoing tests and the test network. I review logs, test results, and any issues reported by other teams overnight. If something looks off—network instability, radio performance deviations, or test failures—I try to identify early whether it’s a setup issue, software behavior, or environmental interference.

A large part of my day involves working in Linux-based test environments. I run and adjust test scripts, mostly using Python and Bash, to automate measurements or validate wireless and network behavior. This could involve MBAN radio testing, WLAN/WiFi6E measurements, or wireless coexistence scenarios. I often analyze packet captures using tools like Wireshark or tcpdump to understand protocol-level behavior and performance issues.

I spend time setting up or modifying testbeds depending on ongoing needs. This can mean configuring radios, access points, network switches, or test servers, or physically adjusting lab setups to reduce interference or improve signal quality. When new radios or firmware versions are introduced, I help build stable test setups and verify that results are consistent and repeatable.

Collaboration is a regular part of my day. I work closely with embedded software engineers, verification teams, and system engineers to clarify test requirements, provide feedback from test results, or help debug issues. Sometimes this involves reproducing a reported problem, running targeted tests, and sharing concrete data or logs that help move things forward.

I also take responsibility for maintaining the test environment itself. This includes monitoring the test network, ensuring DNS/DHCP services are functioning correctly, checking storage availability (such as NAS systems), and making sure lab equipment is calibrated and ready. Keeping the environment stable saves a lot of time for everyone involved.

Some days include documentation work—updating test procedures, writing test results, or refining verification plans, especially when preparing for regulatory, FDA, or release-related milestones.

Overall, my day is a mix of hands-on testing, problem-solving, automation, and collaboration.

Skills I need in my work: Analytical Problem-Solving (System-Level Thinking), Linux/Python Based Testing & Automation Skills, Cross-Team Communication & Collaboration,

How I got my present job: I found my current job by actively applying through LinkedIn. At the time, I was rigorously applying for roles that closely matched my background in networking, wireless technologies, and system testing.

Several factors contributed to me being hired. My previous work experience played a major role, as it demonstrated hands-on exposure to real-world systems, testing environments, and cross-team collaboration. In addition, my Master’s degree in Information Technology from Tampere University helped strengthen my profile, both technically and by showing familiarity with the Finnish working and academic environment.

Overall, it was a combination of relevant professional experience, solid academic background, and consistent, focused job applications that led to this opportunity.

These studies have been most useful in my work: From Master’s Degree (Tampere University – Information Technology), these courses are directly applicable to my work:

Communication Systems and Networks
Basic Course on Wireless Communications
5G Mobile Communications
Communication Systems Laboratory Course
Computer Networking I & II
Networking Laboratory I & II
Wireless Networking
Cloud Platforms
Network Security

Tips for those interested in this job area: Build strong fundamentals, get comfortable with Linux and automation, and focus on understanding systems end-to-end rather than individual tools.
